Laker Linkage – 6/24/09
June 24th, 2009 | by Garrett Wilson |- Phil Jackson isn’t sure how he feels about the idea, but apparently there have been internal discussions of having Phil only coach some road games and having someone like Kurt Rambis fill in while Phil rests at home since travel can cause him health problems. This seems like a plan destined for failure. As mature as the team proved to be, there is no way a team can stay consistent if they are constantly missing their head coach. As much as the Lakers need Phil back, it should be all or nothing.
- Scottie Pippen got goaded into comparing Michael Jordan and Kobe. While Scottie tried hard to call them even if you take era into consideration, he had to give MJ the edge.
- Phil reiterated in a radio interview yesterday that he will make a decision on coaching again by early July.
- Repeating got a little bit harder yesterday with the Spurs trading Bruce Bowen, Fabricio Oberto and Kurt Thomas for Richard Jefferson. Worse yet, Bowen and Oberto are expected to be released and then re-sign with the Spurs, so basically this is just Kurt Thomas for Richard Jefferson. I’ll make that trade each day of the week and twice on Sundays. Then again, it may not make a lick of difference for San Antonio if Manu Ginobili can’t stay healthy and Tim Duncan continues to let age get the best of him.
