October 5th, 2009 | by Garrett Wilson |- The Story: Mark Cuban thinks the Lakers might regret adding Ron Artest to the roster. The Fire Says: What do you know? Mark Cuban is running his mouth, what a surprise. Although if anyone knows anything about regrettable free agent signings, it is Cuban (see Erick Dampier).
- The Story: There are rumors that Lamar Odom proposed to another unnamed Hollywood starlet a week before he met his current wife, Khloe Kardashian. The Fire Says: We get it, Lamar is crazy and possibly hungry for publicity. If it starts affecting his game, then we have a problem. Until then, let’s just ignore all this.
- The Story: Kobe Bryant spent his off-season doing nothing. The Fire Says: Kobe opted to forgo any other off-season commitments this year in order to get refreshed for the coming season. Definitely the right move after all the hoops he played in the last year between a title run and an Olympic tournament.
- The Story: Sasha Vujacic is getting a look at point guard in training camp this year. The Fire Says: Not a bad idea as far as having more versatility, but with Sasha’s long record of horrid decision making, I don’t see that line-up working for more than a few minutes at a time.
- The Story: The Lakers are looking for a new strategy for drawing up defensive schemes now that Kurt Rambis is gone. The Fire Says: Rambis was essentially Phil’s defensive coordinator, but for now, that duty will rotate through the assistant coaching staff.
- The Story: Luke Walton is OK with coming off the bench behind Ron Artest. The Fire Says: And Laker fans are OK with it to. No offense to Luke, but the less of him we see, the better the Lakers are likely doing.
