Laker Linkage – 10/6/09
October 6th, 2009 | by Garrett Wilson |- The Story: John Hollinger released his PER projections for the upcoming season and two Lakers, Kobe Bryant and Andrew Bynum, are in the top ten. The Fire Says: Bynum is a surprise to be in the top ten, the even bigger surprise is that he is ranked HIGHER (#8) than Kobe Bryant (#10). I think Mr. Hollinger might need to run a virus scan on his computer because that calculation seems pretty messed up.
- The Story: Andrew Bynum came off the bench in a recent scrimmage for the Lakers. The Fire Says: It looks to me like Phil Jackson is trying to send a message to Bynum, making him earn his starting center job back.
- The Story: The Lakers have added several new radio affiliates outside the immediate Los Angeles area. The Fire Says: Those of you who don’t get 710 AM in your area should be sure to check the list for your local affiliate… or you can just watch the game on TV like a normal person.
- The Story: Hip problems have caused DJ Mbenga to be held out of practices thus far in camp. The Fire Says: He is expected to return in the near future, but if his injury problems persist, don’t be surprised to see that Lakers carry 14-men into opening night, instead of the 13 they prefer.
- The Story: Derek Fisher is focusing on staying in shape so he can play well this season and beyond. The Fire Says: Fish is a free agent at the end of the year, so it will be interesting if he can perform well enough to interest the Lakers in bringing him back as a player rather than as a coach, which I have been a big proponent of.
- The Story: Andrew Bynum says the MCL that he sprained last year is still loose. The Fire Says: I’m no doctor, but I have a similar issue in my ankle, and I know for me that it means I can sprain my ankle just walking because the ligament basically isn’t doing its job. This explains Bynum’s need for a brace and also makes another injury seem pretty likely to me.
