Laker Linkage – 10/13/09
October 13th, 2009 | by Garrett Wilson |- The Story: Lamar Odom is still being nagged by the back injury he suffered during the Lakers’ post-season run. The Fire Says: Well that’s not good now is it. Big men with back problems is never a good thing, so this is a situation to monitor closely.
- The Story: DJ Mbenga’s biggest contribution to the team is as a physical challenge to the other big men in practice. The Fire Says: And that may be the only tangible contribution Mbenga makes all season. However, it is very interesting to see how much of a premium Phil Jackson puts on challenging the toughness of his frontcourt seeing how that has always been an issue for them.
- The Story: Kevin Ding thinks Sasha Vujacic could be a bit of a sleeper this year. The Fire Says: Sasha’s wonky jumpshot and spotty decision making beg to differ, but let’s hope it is true as the Lakers could use some instant offense in the backcourt off the bench.
- The Story: Phil Jackson considers it a success that Luke Walton hasn’t gotten hurt yet in training camp. The Fire Says: I’m sure the comment was tongue-in-cheek, but it speaks to what a diminished role Luke is going to have this year that his bar for success has been set so low so early.
