Laker Linkage – 10/26/09
October 26th, 2009 | by Garrett Wilson |- The Story: ESPN predicted several Lakers to win some awards this year. The Fire Says: Bynum got votes for Most Improved, Odom got votes for Sixth Man, Artest got votes for Top Defensive Player, Phil Jackson got votes for Coach of the Year and, of course, Kobe got votes for MVP.
- The Story: Kevin Ding has a sit-down interview with Kobe Bryant. The Fire Says: An absolute must read as Ding covers both Kobe the player and the man.
- The Story: Would an Artest meltdown actually be a good thing for the Lakers? The Fire Says: The author asserts that because Artest has mellowed somewhat the last few years the he no longer inspires fear in opponents but a freak out by Ron-Ron would renew that fear.
- The Story: Here are some statistical trends to keep an eye on for the Laker season. The Fire Says: They hit is right on the head in terms of watching Kobe’s free-throw rate which will be a strong indicator of how aggressive he is still capable of being as he ages.
- The Story: The Lakers waived Tony Gaffney. The Fire Says: And now the roster is set. Too bad for Gaffney though, but I expect other teams give him a look or that he find some work in Europe.
- The Story: Jamie Foxx talks some trash about conversations he had with Kobe Bryant. The Fire Says: Whatever, Jamie. You can talk some more trash if you ever make a good movie again. I’m not holding my breath.
- The Story: Andrew Bynum will play in the season opener but Pau Gasol is still questionable. The Fire Says: Bynum gave himself a clean bill of health (though I don’t totally buy it) but Gasol still hasn’t practiced since hurting himself.
