Laker Linkage – 10/27/09

October 27th, 2009 | by Garrett Wilson |
  • The Story: Neither Pau Gasol nor Kobe Bryant were able to practice on MondayThe Fire Says: Pau is likely to miss today’s season opener with a sore hammy but Kobe’s sore foot isn’t believed to be serious enough to prevent him from playing.  Frankly, I am all for Kobe never practicing again if it means saving his legs some unnecessary wear and tear.  Practice?  We talking about practice?
  • The Story: Pau Gasol is set to make a cameo on an upcoming episode of CSI: MiamiThe Fire Says: The episode should be on in the next month and Pau actually is playing a real role and not just himself.  Pau says he has always had the acting bug, but I think there probably won’t be much call in Hollywood for gangly giants with shaggy beards and a Spanish accent.
  • The Story: Tex Winter paid the Lakers a visit at practice yesterdayThe Fire Says: And everyone was glad to see him up and about just a few months removed from suffering a stroke.
  • The Story: The initial Laker roster is set with DJ Mbenga starting the year on the inactive listThe Fire Says: The Lakers can activate Mbenga whenever they need him, so this isn’t a big deal, but it is mildly surprising to see him inactive when the Lakers are likely to be without Pau Gasol for the opener, although there is still time for them to make a change.
  • The Story: It is time for Andrew Bynum to start earning his big contractThe Fire Says: That is certainly an understatement as Bynum is definitely at a career crossroads where he must prove he is the rising star everyone thinks he is.
