Laker Linkage – 11/2/09
November 2nd, 2009 | by Garrett Wilson |- The Story: Jordan Farmar and Adam Morrison were not offered contract extensions by the deadline. The Fire Says: Now both players will be restricted free agents at the end of the season. There is a good chance neither player will be back, though there is some hope for Farmar.
- The Story: Phil Jackson is looking for some consistency from the bench. The Fire Says: To be fair, the bench mob has been consistent this year… consistently unproductive. The Lakers really need some role players to step up if only so the starters don’t all have to play 40 minutes every night.
- The Story: Lakers’ Assistant GM Ronnie Lester is donating $100,000 to his alma mater, University of Iowa. The Fire Says: Who knew assistant GMs made such big bank? Good for you, Ronnie.
- The Story: Ron Artest is convinced he is shooting well. The Fire Says: His 32.1 FG% begs to differ. Life must be very fun on planet Artest.
- The Story: Pau Gasol is getting frustrated and concerned with his recovery from a hamstring injury. The Fire Says: There is now no official timetable for his return to game action, but the Lakers are being very smart to play it careful as hamstring injuries have a way of becoming season-long plagues if not treated with the utmost caution.
- The Story: Ron Artest responded to Mark Cuban’s trash talk by asking what team he should play for, only to have Cuban respond “Detroit.” The Fire Says: I would love to come up with a witty retort for Mr. Cuban, but he has scoreboard on everyone by virtue of being a billionaire plus his team just smacked down the Lakers.
- The Story: Silver Screen and Roll believes that Kobe is such a polarizing figure due to the advent of the internet. The Fire Says: An astute observation especially where Kobe is compared to Michael Jordan who was a very similar character but largely escaped scrutiny because the internet had not yet taken off during his prime.
