Laker Linkage – 11/9/09
November 9th, 2009 | by Garrett Wilson |- The Story: Ron Artest fires back at Charles Barkley for the criticism Sir Charles leveled against Ron-Ron last week. The Fire Says: Barkley thinks Artest has too many off-court pursuits to be able to focus on basketball, but Artest reminds the Round Mound of Rebound that he is always the last one at the gym. Hard to argue Artest here, especially since I recall Barkley having some off-court pursuits that involve throwing people through plate glass windows.
- The Story: Kobe Bryant credits his talented teammates for him to be able to score so much so frequently. The Fire Says: I’m sure Kobe haters will just ignore this story so that they can continue to accuse Kobe of being a selfish ballhog that doesn’t appreciate his teammates. Selective memory is awesome.
- The Story: Kobe Bryant became the youngest player to surpass the 24,000 point plateau in the Lakers weekend victory over Memphis. The Fire Says: Kobe is now sixteenth on the NBA’s all-time scorer list and could crack the top ten by the end of the year. If he can stay healthy, he actually has a pretty realistic shot at becoming the NBA’s all-time leading scorer before he retires.
- The Story: Another Laker injury? Commentator Stu Lantz will undergo surgery to repair a torn meniscus this week. The Fire Says: Lantz won’t miss any games though, either that or they will just play a recording of him saying, “on the Lakers basketball network” every four minutes.
- The Story: The Staples Center now features a posh nightclub where some luxury boxes used to be thanks to nightclub mogul Sam Nazarian. The Fire Says: Good, now let all the Hollywood wannabe posers watch the game there and give their normal seats to actual fans.
- The Story: Kobe Bryant and the Lakers continue to discuss an extension. The Fire Says: I still don’t get the hold up, but at least there is no news of any potential problems with the impending deal.
- The Story: The Lakers don’t think that Pau Gasol is going to be more injury prone going forward this year. The Fire Says: They also still aren’t sure he will be ready to play Thursday against Phoenix, so draw your own conclusions about just how much they believe their own statements.
