Laker Things to be Thankful For

November 24th, 2009 | by Garrett Wilson |

With Thanksgiving now come and gone and my tryptophan-induced coma wearing off I think it is important to take a little time to reflect on things I am thankful for this year.  I suppose I could talk about my family and world peace, but I think we all know that the Lakers take real priority, so here are all things Laker to be thankful for this Thanksgiving season:

turkey

  • Andrew Bynum is playing like an All-Star and isn’t injured yet.  He even banged knees with Eddy Curry last night and came out unscathed.  It might finally be a different year for Drew.
  • Ron Artest has no flagrants yet and “only” two technical fouls.  That has to be considered a success, right?  I am even willing to overlook his half-naked appearance on the Jimmy Kimmel show and the welfare fraud scam he is embroiled in.
  • That 17 of the Lakers’ first 21 games are at home so that they can iron out their early season bumps before the hard part of the schedule comes around.  With the early Gasol injury, integrating Ron Artest and the bench falling apart, this early home-heavy schedule will, in hindsight, be considered a huge stroke of good fortune come season’s end.
  • The Lakers getting their butt kicked a few times to start the year if only because it reminded them that they are not invincible and do have some flaws that need to be addressed if they hope to repeat.  A little humility can go a long way.
  • Kobe’s new post-up game.  Anything that allows the Mamba to continue to be dominant while also saving his legs is something to be immensely thankful for in my book.
  • Adam Morrison’s expiring contract.  With the craptastic bench showing no signs of coming around, I think having Ammo’s sizeable chunk of cap relief is going to come in very handy in a few months as a trade chip.
