Laker Linkage – 11/25/09
November 25th, 2009 | by Garrett Wilson |- The Story: Could Byron Scott and Chris Paul reunite as Lakers in 2012? The Fire Says: I love when writers throw poop at the wall to see if it will stick. In this case it doesn’t. The assumption here is that Scott will take over for Phil Jackson, which I highly doubt since Scott has a bad reputation amongst most players and ownership groups. Also, the Lakers won’t have anywhere close to enough cap room in the summer of 2012 once they sign Kobe Bryant and Pau Gasol to contract extensions in the near future.
- The Story: Ron Artest is thrilled with the Lakers’ situation now that Pau Gasol is back on the floor. The Fire Says: Of course he is, who wouldn’t be? My favorite part is the first adjective the Artest used to describe Pau is tough, clearly Ron-Ron hasn’t been playing alongside Senor Softy for very long.
- The Story: Keep a close eye on how Phil Jackson juggles minutes between Gasol, Bynum and Odom. The Fire Says: I have actually been trying to do that but the Lakers have been kicking butt since Gasol returned and haven’t really employed a regular substitution pattern as a result.
- The Story: Shannon Brown is waiting on an invite to the NBA Slam Dunk Contest. The Fire Says: A groundswell of fan support could certainly get Shannon invited to participate in the festivities, so if you want to see Brown fly high, start making some noise about it.
