Other Laker Player Website Ideas

December 3rd, 2009 | by Garrett Wilson |

As you probably know by now, the Lakers have created a site just for Shannon Brown to try and get him into the 2010 Dunk Contest, LetShannonDunk.com.  But I say, why stop there?  Let’s see what other websites the team might have up their sleeve this year:

Shannon Brown dunks

Let Shannon dunk?, the whole league has been all season so why not the All-Star game too?

DunkLessPlaySmarter.com – We all love the ShanWOW! dunks, but I’d love them a lot more if Shannon Brown played a bit smarter on the plays he wasn’t dunking on.  He isn’t a point guard at all and he seems to be taking shot selection advice from Sasha Vujacic.  Hopefully the educational site of DunkLessPlaySmarter.com can get him focuses on becoming more of a complete basketball player rather than a terrific athlete.

SaveBynumsKnees.org – This one is pretty self-explanatory.  Andrew Bynum is playing like an All-Star and only injury can slow him down, so this website was set up to start a charitable fund to go towards research for finding a way to keep Bynum from suffering his annual knee injury.  Donate now!  Time is running out!!!

HaveYouSeenMyJumper.com – This site could really be for a few Lakers, but look deep into the “About Us” page and you will see that this site was founded by Sasha Vujacic (he’s not only the president, he’s also a member!) and it was actually set-up late last season.

TruthOrCraziness.com – Kind of like the Chuck Norris Facts website, this one features quotes and claims made by Ron Artest.  Your job is to figure out which of them are actually true and which of them are just machinations of his clinically insane brain.

Ron Artest tough

Truth or crazy?  Trick question, the correct answer is both!

BetterThanLeBron.net – Part of the growing trend of basketball reference sites, this one is a list of all the players in the NBA better than league poster boy LeBron James.  It is a quick read as Kobe Bryant is the only player currently listed.

WhenContractYearsGoBad.com – A compilation of cautionary tales for future NBA free agents with the prime case study being Jordan Farmar’s 38.9 FG% and paltry 2.5 assists per game in a season where he is trying to get the Lakers to re-commit to him or find some other team to give him a nice contract this summer.  I know I am frightened for him.

WhatDidMbengaSay.com – This site is a great time waster at work.  The concept is simple: you listen to an audio clip of a simple phrase as spoken by DJ Mbenga and you then try and guess what his bizarre blend of a french cookie monster voice is actually trying to say.  My high score is 3 out of 10.

BigBeardedAndSpanish.com – There are all sorts of niche dating sites out there, but I was surprised to see the Lakers sponsor a site.  As you might’ve guessed, Pau Gasol is a featured male “model.”  I suspect this is part of the team’s plan to find some other way for Pau to spend his downtime during off-seasons rather than wearing his body out in international competition.

Look out, ladies. Here comes Pau!!!

MakeLamarShoot.org - If the Lakers can use a website to coax the NBA into doing something, maybe they can use one to get their own player to do something.  Even though it is painfully obvious the Lakers need consistent scoring punch from the bench, Lamar Odom insists on being a facilitator rather than a scorer.  Maybe this website can convince him to change that.

LetAdamTalk.com – Similar to LetShannonDunk.com, this site is for Adam Morrison, it isn’t that they want to make sure his talking skills go properly appreciated, but more just to see if he is actually capable of talking.

AARP.org – Oh wait that is actually a real site, but for some reason Derek Fisher’s picture is all over it…. hmmmm.

LetLukePlay.com – A site dedicated to get more minutes for Luke Walton, or at least I think that’s what is is.  The site is currently displaying a “page cannot be displayed” message and seems to do so for six straight weeks and then it works for about two weeks before it breaks again for another six weeks.
